Historique :	Tableau exécuté de 1601 à 1602 par P. P. Rubens à la demande de l'archiduc Albert d'Autriche pour la chapelle Sainte-Hélène dans l'église Sainte-Croix de Jérusalem, à Rome. En 1763, le tableau de sainte Hélène fut transporté dans la bibliothèque de l'église parce qu'il avait souffert. En 1811, il fut transporté en Angleterre. Vendu publiquement en 1812 par M. Squibl, il fut acheté à Londres par M. Perrolle, de Grasse, qui, par disposition testamentaire du 14 avril 1827 le donna à la chapelle de l'hôpital de cette ville.
